Flora and Son is a Delightful Family Drama

John Carney knows his niche and is happy to ply his trade within it. He makes family dramas, rom-coms and always emphasises music as a powerful force for redemption and reconnection. Flora and Son continues this streak and is a very solid outing with good performances from Eve Hewson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

A surprising element to Flora and Son was Carney's willingness to craft such an unlikeable character in Flora. She's truly awful at the start of the film and the redemptive journey he takes us on required real courage as most light family dramas would never have taken the risks that he does.
