This victory came as part of ongoing counter-offensive operations in southeastern Ukraine. Ukraine, which has been advancing in the region, announced last month that it had retaken the village of Andriivka, about six miles south of Bakhmut. Colonel General Syrskyi stated that Ukrainian troops destroyed Russian tanks in Bakhmut, including three T-72, one T-80 and two T-90 tanks. However, it is not clear whether these losses have been confirmed by Russia.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also reported unsuccessful attempts by Russian forces to retake recaptured areas near Bakhmut. It also stated that Ukrainian defense forces continued offensive operations south of Bakhmut, inflicting losses in manpower and equipment on the enemy.
