As the death toll from the violent escalation in Israel and Gaza edges towards a thousand people the conflict spreads, with members of the Hamas militant group reportedly torching a checkpoint in the West Bank. With shelling on the Gaza Strip continuing today, an Israeli attack has completely destroyed a mosque in a city there. Heavy equipment moves towards the border with Gaza, raising the specter of a ground operation coming as Israel's security cabinet invokes an article officially declaring the country to be in a state of war. The Lebanese Army says Israeli troops have used tanks and artillery to target a number of their settlements, causing injuries. That after the Hezbollah militant group claimed responsibility for an attack on IDF positions in a disputed border area earlier.
