France Begins Pulling Out Soldiers from Niger
France has begun withdrawing its troops from Niger. The first set of 1,500 troops started leaving this week.
The contingent left after demands by the country's junta ending France's military ties with its former colony. The departure also marks France's diminishing influence in the region.
Meanwhile, this week itself the US officially declared July's military takeover in Niger as a coup resulting in the suspension of aid..
However, the US has said that there were no plans to change its troop presence in the country.
