National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan provided an update on Tuesday, revealing that there are more than 20 Americans unaccounted for in Israel amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, which has already resulted in a significant loss of lives, with 1,600 casualties.

During a White House press briefing, Sullivan emphasized that the status of these individuals as missing does not automatically imply that they are being held hostage. He clarified, "We believe that there are 20 or more Americans who, at this point, are missing. But I want to underscore and stress that does not necessarily mean that there are 20 or more American hostages. It simply reflects the number of individuals who are currently unaccounted for."
