Quick Tip for Families in ICU: Prone Positioning or ECMO with ARDS / Lung Failure.
Hi, it’s Patrik Hutzel from intensivecarehotline.com with another quick tip for families in intensive care.
Over the last few days, i’ve been consulting a client who’s got their loved one in intensive care after a heart attack and after quadruple bypass and also their loved one had a stint on ECMO.
Now their loved one recovered after many weeks in intensive care. Even had a tracheostomy removed and decannulated and after some kidney failure the client went back into intensive care and ended up on dialysis.
Now, the intensive care team was pretty quick again on suggesting to the family to stop and withdraw treatment and let their loved one die. Now after I looked at the situation from many angles, I found that the client wasn’t even ventilated. So, he only went back into ICU because of kidney failure and ended up on dialysis.
Now, why is this important? Most patients in intensive care are ventilated and are ventilator dependent and are on a ventilator, in an induced coma for quite some time. Now in this situation, the only reason why the client went back into ICU was simply the kidney failure therefore, you know, the patient is or was in single organ failure, which was the kidney failure.
Continuation..
