Do Social Justice Comics Really Sell?

DC Comics and Marvel have been adding more elements of modern social justice, commonly known as "woke" agenda, into their books. The declining readership in itself is problematic, but have they also irreparably damaged their brand by race/gender/sexuality-swapping their characters and are now unable to go back to their classic versions for fear of being deemed phobic?
