Choosing the Right Fascia Material: Why OSB Falls Short

Using Oriented Strand Board (OSB) for fascia is discouraged primarily due to its vulnerability to moisture damage and lack of durability. OSB's composition makes it prone to swelling, warping, and delamination when exposed to rain, snow, and humidity, which is particularly problematic for fascia boards located on the exterior of buildings. Its rough and uneven surface also poses challenges for achieving an aesthetically pleasing finish, and it may require additional effort for painting. Additionally, OSB's structural integrity can be compromised over time, potentially affecting the support for eaves and gutters. For these reasons, exterior-grade plywood or solid wood is commonly preferred for fascia boards, offering better resilience, longevity, and a more appealing appearance.
