What the Word of God Says About Life, Death and Life After Death: Session 3: What is Hell?

There are 4 different and distinct words all translated "hell" in modern versions of the Bible (KJV, RSV, NIV etc.). One is a Hebrew word, "Sheol" that is translated 3 different ways: hell, grave and pit.

3 of those 3 words translated "hell" are Greek. Those are "Hades," "Gehenna," and "Tartarus." All three Greek words are translated the same way -- hell, but they are completely different words! Each word has a different and distinct meaning. Translating them all as "hell" is inaccurate and grossly misleading to God's people. In fact, none of them should have been translated "hell" because the English word, "hell" has a completely different meaning than those three greek words they translate hell!
