Amid escalating tensions, Palestinians in northern Gaza embarked on a mass exodus on Friday following a directive from Israel's military instructing approximately 1 million people to evacuate to the southern part of the besieged territory. The evacuation was prompted by the anticipation of a ground invasion in response to the recent surprise attack by the ruling Hamas militant group nearly a week prior.

Expressing concern, the U.N. cautioned that the large-scale displacement of nearly half of Gaza's population could lead to calamitous consequences and urged Israel to reconsider its unprecedented decision. Throughout the day, as relentless airstrikes continued to pound the area, families packed their possessions into cars, trucks, and even donkey carts, creating a stream of refugees along a main road out of Gaza City.
