The Last Clip You'll Ever See
During the Cold War, CNN made a video to play in case of a nuclear apocalypse.
People thought the video was just a rumor, but now we know it's real.
Here's the story of why it was made, and what would be on the last broadcast in human history.
Ted Turner was speaking quite literally. In fact, Turner created a piece of media in case of nuclear apocalypse. Called "The Doomsday Video," it remained in CNN's archives for decades, and was only publicly released a few years ago. It bore a heading that read, "TURNER DOOMSDAY VIDEO--HFR [hold for release] until end of the world confirmed."
The video is a strange, haunting, and beautiful piece of lost media. It's a relic of the Cold War, but, given the geopolitical threats we're currently facing, it still speaks to us today.
