A law that handed down unending sentences for often minor offences. Even though the law was finally halted in 2012, over 3000 people are still affected by it, roughly half of those still behind bars, the other half facing a lifetime of rigid parole rules and possible recall. As an example, a girl who took a plant pot and some betting slips from an ex boyfriend served 18 years without any information of release or parole. Under such circumstances many understandably don’t make it through incarceration and so far 90 of the laws victims have taken their own lives.
