Out of all possible ratings: Terrible, Bad, Average, Good, Great....

My rating, based upon my playthrough experience, is: Good!

Holy shit! The Fatal Frame games have always been some of, if not the, best games in the survival-horror genre, but this game really pulled everything together for an unforgettable experience and some truly terrifying moments that rival Silent Hill 2, Amnesia: The Dark Decent, and P.T. So far, I've played Fatal Frame 1 and 2, and both of those games are unnerving as hell in their own ways, but MOBW takes a different approach to unnerving the player via some cleverly constructed Five Nights at Freddies-like camera watching, and a genuinely horrific narrative that will turn your stomach. This is a tradeoff, as the combat is no longer the nerve-racking ordeal it was in the first two games.

Where the game gets things wrong is a lack of focus via maintaining the sense of tension, especially in the beginning of the game. There is material that could have been cut from the game to make a shorter, more focused experience. The game was a little too ambitious, trying to tie in several different overlapping stories with multiple protagonists centered around a focal point, which largely works, but can be confusing at times. Also, the ghost hand ended up being funny, not scary lol

If you're a fan of narrative based horror games that rely on substance rather than jump scares for horror, this game is for you! As much as I wanted to give this a great rating, it had its flaws. That being said, it is still one of the best survival-horror games out there, and I recommend it to everyone.
