That's how it is: The easiest way to keep someone brainwashed is by giving them the false perception that they are awakened with knowledge. The easiest way to keep to convince slaves to stay in slavery is by giving them the false perception that they live in "freedom". In that way, there's no way a slavery would even try to escape from his slavery if he doesn't even realize that that's what it is.
