This headlamp from Gizmify has a premium feel and a robust build quality that many rivals lack and which belies the bargain price and it also has a feature which I have never seen before on any head torch.

In the small mid market box were just the torch, headband, charging cable and a well written but rather small user guide..It is a pity that no storage case was included, but for the £12.99 pre-discount price that is understandable.

The headlight has a robust detachable elasticated headband with an adjustable buckle which feels well made and built to last. Facing forward are the three lights, white and yellow light spots with below them a white/red LED striplight with integrated charging status LED. Between the two spotlights is the motion detector sensor which is selected using the button on the top, next to the power button. On the bottom is the gromett protected USB-C charging port. The whole light unit can be angled smoothly downwards up to 60° with two click stop stages.

Operating the light is simple enough. Short press the power button to turn the light on and select the lighting mode. Short pressing the power button scrolls through high white spot - low white spot - high yellow spot - low yellow spot - white flood - red flood - red flashing. Short press again to turn it off. To enter SOS strobing mode, when the light is off, long press the power button.

To use the motion detection gesture control feature, when the light is on press the sensor button and you can now turn the light on and off by waving your hand 10-15 cm in front of the light. To turn the light and sensor on together, just press the sensor button when the light is turned off. Take note that the motion sensor cannot be used to select the operating mode, which has to be done using the power button.

The torch has a 1200 mAh Lithium Polymer battery which is charged through the USB-C port on the base of the unit. The LED status light changes from red to green when charging is done, with a full charge from flat taking around four hours and giving 7-12 hours of sustained use.

In use, the head torch feels light and comfortable and is easy to operate with the Motion Detection control being very much more useful than I expected since it is reliable in use and frees up both hands. Many head torches require both hands to use, one to operate the button and the other to steady the band. The light is powerful with a good steady beam, although I find I only need to use the white light options.

For the current low price, this is certainly one to consider if you need a decent quality light for running, nighttime sports or garage work.
