Marty Ross's play is based on the dramatic events in the life of the composer Arnold Schoenberg.

Schoenberg’s triumph and tragedy go hand in hand as his wife, Mathilde, and his friend, the artist Richard Gerstl, embark on an affair, which helped fire him into the revolutionary musical creativity that would make his name.
