SUPA - Good Ol' Country Boo - 1971
Supa is a kid from Brooklyn who received his basic training playing guitar in soul bands. He dropped out of college during his junior year and went to New York. There he became a member of the Rich Kids, one of those legendary Long Island groups like the Rascals and Vanilla Fudge, and stayed there for almost five years.
Over the next two years, Supa wrote a lot of songs, put together a band that never stuck, and spent several months playing one of the lead roles in the Broadway company "Hair." Now he has a new band of his own. Supa's Jamboree, made up of very close-knit musicians.
The result is an extremely tight album. The musicality is top notch. They have the power and control to start quietly on a number and end with a bang, one of the things the Stones do so well.
The material, written entirely by Supa, is varied and consistently good and the singing is truly something to note - Richard Supa is a singer to be reckoned with.
