Step by Step How to Paint Marble Travertine Kitchen Counters Without a Kit!

I painted my kitchen counters last year (Sept 2012) because I hated the ugly green speckled counters. It took 1 day to wash, sand, prime (repeat). 1 day to paint with acrylic paint & then go over it with another color to give it more of a 3D look. Finally, I had to tape plastic up all around my open concept kitchen to keep my cats out because I was ready to pour on the Epoxy Resin. You can see some white paw prints in one of the pictures (thanks to my cat, Boston). I did paint out his prints.

When you mix the Epoxy Resin you have to MOVE FAST because it does become difficult to spread evenly if you wait too long. We had 4 different sections that we worked on. We bought a 24" wide metal spreader from the hardware store and used that to help spread the epoxy evenly. Be sure to cover EVERYTHING - including yourself and the floor. This way you don't have to worry about drips.

We put a small heater inside the kitchen to help cure the epoxy faster. It took about 24 hours to harden to the touch. We then let it harden another day or two before we put our kitchen back together.

Would I do this again? Yes!!! In fact, I have already done a bathroom counter top. This Epoxy Resin is so beautiful when it hardens. I have no problems with any of my counters. They are durable and easy to clean. They still look shiny and new which is amazing considering I like to cook. A lot.
