Abu Bakr is the second in our series of Heroic Muslims. He was one of the first Muslims and a loyal supporter and friend to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The Prophet loved him dearly. In return, Abu Bakr trusted and believed in the Prophet, and that's why Abu Bakr was called al-Siddiq, the one who confirms the truth. He was kind and gentle and known for freeing those who were enslaved. He was given many responsibilities in the early years of Islam, which seemed to set him up to be the first caliph after the Prophet's death.
