Tanjiro barely dodges Rui's thread and is injured; Nezuko then enters the battle to protect him. Seeing their bond, Rui declares her his new sister, before revealing he is Lower Five of the Twelve Kizuki. He takes Nezuko and restrains her in threads, while taunting Tanjiro into beheading him, who fails to do so. Using Water Breathing's strongest form, he cuts through the threads, but Rui strengthens new ones with blood and traps Tanjiro in a Blood Demon Art. Near death, he remembers how his father would perform a night-long ritualistic dance, using a special breathing style. Using the style, Hinokami Kagura, he destroys Rui’s attack and overwhelms him. Rui launches more threads but Nezuko uses her own Blood Demon Art, igniting her blood to burn them away. Using Nezuko's blood on his sword, Tanjiro beheads Rui.
