BLUE STAR DONATIONS: BETELGEUSE

Betelgeuse is a red supergiant star located in the constellation Orion. It is one of the largest and brightest stars that we can observe from Earth, and is easily visible to the naked eye. Betelgeuse is believed to be nearing the end of its life, and could potentially explode as a supernova at any time, although it could be thousands of years before that happens. It is one of the brightest and most recognizable stars in the night sky and is also one of the largest stars known to astronomers. Betelgeuse is approximately 640 light-years from Earth and has a diameter of around 1,000 times that of the Sun. It is expected to eventually explode as a supernova, although it is not clear when this will happen. Its name is derived from the Arabic phrase "Yad al-Jauza," which means "the hand of Orion."
