A former Grand Valley State University student

James King was 21 when he was beaten and arrested in 2014 by a plainclothes Grand Rapids police officer and an FBI agent. His beating was captured on camera, and King says he fought back because he thought he was being mugged. Justices decided against hearing his appeal and King is now out of legal options.
