Great Goose Hunt

Great Goose Hunt was recorded on 12/28/19 this is the last hunt we would have in the 2019 year with a week left of season, we would get one more day in but it would be in 2020. We were East of Forestville Wisconsin. We had eight persons in the blind, and I had loads of camera issues on this day my Canon video camera had a small piece of straw in the lens area and auto focus kept fighting. My Tactacam camera on the shotgun kept throwing the back cover off even though it was locked (nice lock), when that happened I would lose that whole volley of three shots because the battery would come loose. The geese were very active on this day, the weather had warmed and they were now flying from both Algoma along the lakeshore and also from the Ahnapee River which had opened back up due to flow from some rain we had gotten. The weather was a warm 36 degrees, with a Souththeast wind, and light rain was on the way. The setup was great but the geese did not come in very close so Courtney had quite a few times where she didn’t even shoot with her 20 gauge. We ended up with 22 geese and here in Wisconsin our daily bag limit is three during the regular season so we were two short of our limit, but one of our crew had a flat tire that morning he wanted to get fixed, and light drizzle started so we packed up early as the geese were flying everywhere around our heads! John Kostichka who is part of this group passed away in March of 2020, he was a terrific man and I enjoyed his company very much, may the Lord watch over his soul!
