Hasidic ad || Poking Fun at the "Gluttonous Hasid"

Another ad for my collection of Hasidic Yiddish advertisements... This one is a big jab and makes a lot of fun of the materialistic excess that has permeated some aspects of Hasidic culture.

It makes fun of the new style of the Hasidic Jew: the Chill Hasid. The Chill Hasid partakes fully in the pleasures of modern materialistic life, is aware of American cultural references like the Godfather, mixes more English than Yiddish, but continues to identify completely with Hasidic Jewry. This, to me, seems to be a future of Hasidic Jews that is a solution for those who don't fit in but can't, or won't, go through the hell of leaving. Instead of leaving the narrow confines of this world, these Hasidic Jews are broadening the confines. It's just a shame, I think, that the way the circle is expanding is towards incorporating the worst of modern excess into Hasidic culture.

But this ad is a fun little ribbing at the Chill Hasid, exaggerates his exploits and hedonism, and tries to guilt trip him into not being so indulgent by spending some on this company's product. It is a very inside joke at the expense of the Chill Hasid but it shouldn't be taken to reflect the actual life of this demographic.
