PUPPET SHOW TAKES ON APARTHEID ISRAEL

Many refuse to accept Israel is practicing apartheid against the Palestinian people. This comes despite credible organisations, such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, calling Israel an apartheid state and comparing Israel to apartheid-era South Africa.

It is also important to remember Israel does not only share similarities with the South African apartheid regime. During the apartheid era in South Africa, the two states had a strong military collaboration, in which Israel supplied South Africa with equipment that was used to suppress Black South Africans. Tel Aviv also helped the regime circumvent international sanctions that had been imposed to bring down the apartheid system.

This clip from the British satiric puppet programme, ‘Spitting Image,’ which aired in approximately 1990, used a puppet of then-Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir to present statistics that demonstrated Israel is, indeed, an apartheid state.
