Butters Mountain Stoneham, Maine

Looking for a great 1/2 day hike in Western Maine? Check out Butters Mountain.The trailhead is at the end of Hut Rd in Stoneham. It’s a 3.7 mile hike up the Great Brook Trail to the Red Rock Trail junction. Then, it’s only a 20 minute hike along the ridge to reach the summit of Butters Mountain ⛰️. There’s several waterfalls along the the Great Brook Trail and an old home foundation & grave site about 1.5 miles up the trail on the left. The name on a faded headstone was Mary Butters, so they apparently name the Butters Mountain after the family who lived at the base of the mountain.🇺🇸
