Gaza: Five updates as Israeli troops surround Gaza city. Israeli troops have cut off the second major road leading from north Gaza to the south of the strip, effectively surrounding Gaza City. Tanks and troops pushing through the centre of the Gaza Strip cut the al-Rashed road that runs down the coast on Friday. Salah al-Din, the only other major highway linking north with south, was severed last week. IDF soldiers are now pushing into the city proper, with the aim of clearing it of Hamas terrorists. Fighting has been reported in the town of Beit Hanoun, in the north-east of the strip, and the Sheikh Radwan neighbourhood within Gaza City itself.
