Metal gates as it is

This is the gate in the yard of my distant house. The gates were made and installed more than 30 years ago. 0.1 inch thick metal. The fasteners are also metal. The metal is a little rusty but still strong. Now such gates stand around
$1000. But before it cost no more than $300. The gate needs to be painted. Otherwise there will be more rust.

There was a time when a lot of metal was produced. And other cheaper and lighter materials have not yet been invented. That's why people made gates like those in medieval castles.
