Garden Care Q&A - Watering During Winter/ Winterizing Plants/ Changing Flower Color

It's time for Saturday garden questions and answers!!! 😃👍 In-leu of our Saturday LIVE Garden Chat, we wanted to answer 3 new recent garden questions from you that are truly top-of-mind right now. Thank you to @NeryAleman, @ValJalava, and @Lolitadarkmusic for your fun and very-timely questions! We answer questions about winter watering of Vermillionaire Firecracker plant, why Hotlips Sage flowers change color, and tips to overwinter/winterize your perennial plants in your garden. A few more wintering tips are: 1) don't apply new fertilizer that stimulates new aboveground growth that can then lead to freeze or frost damage; 2) deadhead withered and spent flowers to minimize pests and diseases; and 3) continue to keep plants hydrated and water UNTIL the ground actually freezes so plants don't die. Of course, if you aren't sure what to do in your area in general or for specific plants, definitely check with your county extension agent to get your climate-specific gardening information.
