CH 5 Finding a New Place To Call Home: Two Becoming One
Moving in together is an exciting step in any relationship, and it certainly shouldn't be taken lightly. But, if you and your partner have decided that now is the right time to take the plunge, then there are some things you need to think about before making a decision. One of these is the location of the apartment you plan to live in. It is important to consider both of your current living arrangements and proximity to work, school, and friends when you are making a move together.
If it turns out that both of you live close to each other, it may seem like the obvious choice to move into either yours or your partner's apartment. However, after a while it may begin to feel even more like theirs than yours, or vice versa. In order for both of you to feel equally at home, it may be better to start fresh and choose a new place to call “ours.”
When considering a new apartment, search for one that can accommodate both of your needs and enable you to have some independence but also feel connected to one another. Do the research, visit your favorite listings, and think carefully about all the details before making a decision. After all, moving in together should represent a common home and a step forward in your relationship, not a definition of it.
