November 12, 2023, Mark 6:7-13 and 30-32, "Apostleship Training" (No Music, Live)
[Preface.]
Mark 6:7-13, Jesus Christ sent the 12 out
Mark 6:14-29, John the baptist beheaded
Mark 6:30-32, the apostles returned and reported back to Jesus Christ
Mark 6:7, the 12 disciples of Jesus Christ were referred to simply as the 12
Mark 6:30, later in verse 30 they were referred to as the 12 apostles
. over the course of Jesus acquiring the 12 they would have been taught and led by example by Christ Himself, before they were sent out in verse 7
[He gives power.]
Mark 6:7, six groups of two (pair at a time) organized by Jesus Christ
. where 2 witnesses were gathered in His name
. a partner will keep the other accountable
Mark 6:7, the 12 were not formally educated by the synagogues nor did they have corporate relationships with those priests, they left their prior occupations and followed Jesus, and Jesus Christ took care of them
Matthew 10, Mark 6, Luke 9, power (and trust) was given onto the 12 to heal, cleanse, and preach the kingdom of God; there was no lack for everything was provided for; all that remained was for the 12 to have faith in Jesus (if Jesus sent someone, surely He has already provided the means for them to do so and complete their mission all the way through)
[He gives clear instruction.]
Mark 6:8-11, Jesus gave clear instructions on what the 12 should carry on their travels (and what NOT to take or receive from others), what to wear (later on He would tell them if any one did not have a sword to go into the spiritual battle, first sell their coat and acquire a sword), where to go or stay for a while, and how to interact with the people
Mark 6:8-10, wherever the 12 were sent Jesus ensured they would have the sufficient means; although it appeared they were sent away with almost no physical materials, all the 12 had to do was trust that Jesus already provided the means, just as He said He would in these verses
. in the other gospels, Jesus also warned the 12 of the dangers
Mark 6:11, in reference to: the Jews historically would shake the dust off of their feet afterwards, especially if they had to travel or mingle amongst the Gentiles (it was not enough to simply leave an undesirable area, the dust on the shoes had to be removed also)
Mark 6:11, Sodom and Gomorrah did not follow the laws and teachings of God nor heed the warnings of the prophets that were sent, therefore for anyone who did not receive the 12 apostles, the offense would be even worse as they would be rejecting the Son of God that was sent into the Earth to save
[He expects obedience.]
Mark 6:12-13, beyond all doubt the 12 would need to accomplish their mission, for who can stand mighty against God and His will (no one can)
Mark 6:30, the first milestone transitioning from discipleship to apostleship was reached, after their missions were completed; since they all made it successfully back to Christ, surely it was just as He said it would be
[He teaches to rest.]
Mark 6:31-32, Jesus gave the 12 rest (departed to a quiet private place) after they were done with their trips
