Adventists. A 19th century schism. It centers around anticipation of the Second Coming of Christ, emphasizing belief in His imminent return. Saturday, the seventh day of the week, is the Sabbath. They base this practice on the belief that God created the world in six days and rested on the seventh day, establishing it as a day of rest and worship, from Old Testament teachings. They emphasize healthful living, advocating vegetarianism, encourage regular exercise and abstaining from tobacco and alcohol. They operate healthcare institutions and promote holistic well-being as part of spiritual practice. Education is highly valued, with a global network of schools and universities.
They place importance on prophecy in Daniel and Revelation. William Miller predicted the second coming in the 1840s. His prediction failed. A group led by prophetess Ellen and James White then formed the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
