Barrett Strong Jr. (1941-2023) was an influential American singer and songwriter known for his pioneering work with the early Motown record label. His hit ""Money (That's What I Want)"" marked Motown's early success. Strong collaborated with Norman Whitfield to co-write several soul classics, earning a Grammy Award for ""Papa Was a Rollin' Stone."" He founded Blarritt Records to support aspiring musicians. Strong's contributions to music led to his induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2004. He passed away in 2023 in San Diego, California, leaving behind a significant legacy in shaping the Motown sound.
