Applying the Qualities of Glitter

Glitter possesses several qualities which we can apply to how we affect others we come into contact with.

The first quality of glitter is the light it reflects.

Jesus tells us in ‭Matthew‬ ‭5:14‬-15, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house."

Glitter isn't dull. It sparkles by reflecting light. Just as God does not desire us to be dull, but rather, he expects us to reflect the light of Jesus, who tells us in John‬ ‭8:12‬ “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

The next quality of glitter is that it attracts attention by the beauty it brings to an object.

As God's children we are to attract people to Him by exhibiting His beauty to others.

‭Apostle Paul teaches us in Ephesians‬ ‭5:8‭-‬9‬, "For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth).

As we continually seek to "live as children of light", we will naturally exude qualities that attract others. When people witness our sense of peace, joy and hope, they desire to be around us because they also desire to possess those qualities in their own lives. This glorifies God and attracts others to Him through us.

The third quality of glitter is that it sticks to everything it comes into contact with.

Our goal should always be to leave someone better than we found them by leaving bits of our sparkle behind. By doing so, we are glorifying our Father in Heaven as we read in ‭Matthew‬ ‭5:16‬,

"In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

God uses the sparkle we leave behind to plant seeds for Christ as we read in 2 Corinthians‬ ‭2:14‭, "But thanks be to God, who... uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere."

So let us apply the qualities of glitter in our lives by...

- Reflecting the light of Jesus
- Attracting others to Jesus through the fruits of light
AND
- Leaving a bit of the sparkle of Jesus on everyone with whom we come into contact
