Elagabalus (born probably 203, Emesa, Syria—died March 11, 222, Rome) Roman emperor from 218 to 222, notable chiefly for his eccentric behaviour. He was a male prostitute and sexual deviant who became emperor solely on marrying a descendant of Marcus Aurelius and actually changed his name to Marcus Aurelius Antoninus. He often proclaimed himself as a woman.
