Tbilisi Walks: Vake Park

Vake Park in Tbilisi is almost 80 years old. It was opened shortly after the end of World War II in 1946, transforming a former wasteland into what was known as Victory Park. The creation of this park was a remarkable achievement, involving extensive efforts in landscaping, drainage, and leveling, including the use of controlled explosions. Hundreds of thousands of trees and shrubs were meticulously planted, making it the most significant greening project in the history of Tbilisi.

During the Soviet era, the Victory Memorial complex was also established here, featuring the Eternal Flame, the Monument to the Unknown Soldier, and the colossal 28-meter Victory statue on the hillside.
