Carmilla by J S Le Fanu.

Irishman, Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu wrote a lot of ghost and supernatural stories, but this classic vampire story with strong Lesbian overtones is one of the best. It's better than Polidori's The Vampyre or Varney the Vampire that preceded it. Bram Stoker, the author of Dracula, worked for Le Fanu in Dublin before moving to England. Carmilla is really a Gothic masterpiece.
