Credit Where Credit is Due

We’re big believers in giving credit where credit is due. So, today, we tip our collective police hats to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency for arresting a 37-year-old Brazilian fugitive from justice in Martha’s Vineyard, of all places.
A Fox News report identified the international escapee as Saulo Cardona Ferreira, who fled his South American homeland prior to serving prison time for raping a 5-year-old girl in the town of Sorisso, Mato Grosso. After his apprehension during a Massachusetts traffic stop by an ICE Fugitive Operations Team, Ferreira was held for an appearance before a federal immigration judge.
He was expected to be deported to his homeland after Brazilian authorities filed a warrant for his arrest.
Of the more than 46-thousand criminals arrested by ICE in the U.S. during 2022, just over 8-thousand of them were wanted on sex and sexual assault charges.
While it is good for this necessary work to continue in the meantime, we look forward to the return of President Donald Trump who has promised that during his second term in the White House, the act of illegally entering the United States will be the only crime required for immediate deportation. And that will be a massive operation, considering that roughly 2.4 million unlawful border crossers have entered this country in 2023 alone.
