B516 - Nov 26, 2023 When We Fast

In part two of our study on prayer, we discuss the Bible concept of Fasting for more spiritual strength and physical self-control. Most believers today have an incorrect concept of what fasting is and what function it should provide in the life of a fasting person. Fasting is not giving up creature comforts, or entertainment options, in order to impress Yehovah with your piety. It is always about your need for food and your willingness to deprive yourself, in order to build up your spiritual endurance and learn to trust God.

The Bible gives us many examples of fasting in the lives of both believers and in the lives of the unrighteous. Fasting is the affliction of your soul, by denying it food and or water, with the intention of strengthening your spiritual man in the process. Fasting without prayer, is just a diet. Fasting to be trendy, or just to gain attention, will not produce spiritual growth or maturity in the life of a believer.

Fasting is giving up a necessity in your life, with the idea of replacing it with more of God and His Holy Spirit. If you need deliverance from addictions, help overcoming temptations, better listening skills for God's Voice, help finding God's Will in your life, wisdom making big life choices, or more of fruit of the Holy Spirit in your life, pray earnestly and spend time fasting. Replace your prep and eating time with sincere prayer, worship, and time studying God's Word, until the need has been met.

Biblical Fasting demonstrates to Yehovah that you are serious about your personal relationship with Him and that your spiritual growth is more important to you than your temporary comfort. Your carnal man will fight the fasting process, but that is the point, through the power of the Holy Spirit you are growing the spiritual man and crushing the carnal man.

Trust in Yehovah with all of your heart and do not trust in your own abilities. Cry out to Yeshua and accept His free gift of redemption for your life and be filled with the Holy Spirit from Yehovah. Trust in the Plan that will never fail!

Make Disciples for Yeshua the Anointed One
Sanctify the Name of Yehovah the Father
