Ways of using the eyes to judge relationships in painting.

QUESTIONS: You and others talk about ways of looking at nature when painting. Things like looking away, looking hard at the thing you aren't painting, disfocusing or defocusing, not looking past the picture plane, blurring down, focused looking. Nature looks different with each way of looking so how do I know which 'look' I want? JOHN P
