GOLD STANDARD - Will the USA Ever Go Back on the Gold Standard?

Will the USA ever go back on the gold standard? in the past (over 50 years ago) the USA was on the gold standard and for a period of time you could exchange your dollars for gold coins. The gold standard protected us from inflation and it gave stability to the dollar. Ever since the US left the gold standard the dollar has lost massive buying power. We are currently experiencing high inflation and a gold standard would be a solution to that problem. I am currently buying gold so that I can protect myself from inflation. I do not know if the USA will ever go back on the gold standard, but I know that I can purchase physical gold to protect myself.
