Jeremiah 7 "The Demise of a Nation" 11/29/23

God has Jeremiah stand in the gate of the temple (the Lord’s house).
This may sound simple enough…but there is a lot that has led up to this moment.
In 2 Kings 22-23 we learn that King Josiah was cleaning things up in Judah…
He had all the idols removed, he had all the Ashtoreth poles taken down…and the alters to idols destroyed in the high places.
He made Topheth, which is in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, unusable…
So that no one might burn his son or his daughter as an offering to Molech.
He removed the horses that the kings of Judah had dedicated to the sun god, at the entrance to the house of the Lord.
He even destroyed the alters that were put on the roof…that the kings before him used to worship false gods.
And he was having the temple…which had not been used for years cleaned out…and repaired.
While they were cleaning out the temple Hilkiah the high priest found the book of the law.
