Statement Opener

Most people when interacting with new people default to asking questions. "Where are you from?", "What do you do?", "What brings you here?", etc. Although, you can get into an interaction with a question, it is not ideal to be so one dimensional and have that be your only tool.

Do yourself a favor and enrich the pallet of conversational tools that you have. One thing that you can do is begin your interaction with a statement. So instead of saying the questions above, you can say, "You look like you're from Germany", "I bet you work at bank", "I see you're here for the show ... this is great entertainment value".

Doing something like this sets you apart in how you begin your interactions, because it's new and refreshing, since most people are just asking questions.
