Truth & Knowledge: Episode 2 – "Substance Abuse"

In this episode, Trey Knowles offers a deeper, spiritual perspective on substance abuse. He defines substance abuse not only as the misuse of drugs and alcohol, but as anything that "subs in" and replaces your natural, God-given self—affecting your mind, heart, spirit, soul, or body.

Trey explains that true substance is anything natural, pure, and rooted in truth—ultimately pointing to Jesus as the ultimate substance. When you're not walking in this truth, you're living unnaturally, which he defines as being under substance abuse.

He challenges listeners to examine themselves:

Is your mind thinking clearly?

Is your heart influencing your spirit in a healthy way?

Is your soul—your will and belief—aligned with purity and faith?

If not, you may be under the control of something else, which is the essence of substance abuse.

The cure?
Living in alignment with what is clean, pure, and true—walking in the substance of faith. Trey ties this message to Hebrews 11:1: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

He concludes that Jesus is the true substance, and only through Him can we overcome the things that try to "sub us out" of our natural, spiritual identity.
