If you have a muscle that keeps tightening even after you stretch / release it, it could be tightening to compensate because it is weak.

We had a friend who’s groin/ adductors kept tightening up until he did strength work and they didn’t tighten up again.

We’ll see if my theory works with my client who has protracted shoulders from her tight serratus.
