Kerry Promises to Get Rid of Coal Faster. That’s Not Good.
While attending this year's annual global climate summit, COP-28, U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry announced that the U.S. would be partnering with the Power Past Coal Alliance. The announcement promises that the U.S. will commit itself to speeding up the process of phasing out coal — something the Biden Administration had already promised to do by 2035.
The problem is that coal, which supplies nearly 20 percent of the U.S.'s electricity, is currently an important part of our power grid — not to mention the mainstay of an entire industry employing thousands of Americans in poorer, rural areas of the country. But, as usual, the elites don't care about the little guy.
