Schools need more people like Murray Trenberth!

Murray Trenberth, ex Principal and experienced teacher joined the Let Kids Be Kids desk recently to chat about the state of our education system and family unit, and the many changes he’s concerned about.

Murray started teaching in 1973 as a maths and computing teacher, and has taught in high schools around NZ throughout his career.

We’re taking to the airwaves to talk to every day people who are share their experiences and examples of what really seems to be going on. Parents know many of our kids are struggling, academically, emotionally, socially these days.

Murray has had a long, rich career in education - passionate about community building and mental health support within the community (Well Trust - a mental health facility dealing with youth, alcohol and drug abuse, youth offenders). He’s seen a lot during his career, and has much to say about our young people today, and the school system.

When Helen Clark was became PM in 1999, she announced on the radio the closure of the school Murray had recently commenced his role as Principal at Taita College in the Hutt Valley, Wellington. Murray explains how he turned the College around and within a few years won a range of awards.

“The (Principals) I have met recently are far too ‘woke’. They are trying to look after those who are ‘victims’, those who have been discriminated against traditionally, to such an extent that kids almost have the upper hand.” - Murray Trenberth
