Antony Loewenstein, author of the Palestine Laboratory, says that Israel is using Gaza as “a key testing ground for new weapons”.

“Sometimes deadly, sometimes also just surveillance,” Loewenstein told Al Jazeera. “So what we’ve seen in the last two months is really huge amounts of new technology, in particular drones, quadcopters, so to speak, which have been firing … into Palestinian areas, including civilian areas.”

Loewenstein said Israel has been conducting AI warfare since the war in 2014, but now it has “really accelerated”.

“By using this technology, in its war against Hamas, it has been used … to press Israeli audiences and also internationals to try to get support for Israel’s brutal war in Gaza. But it’s also for foreign buyers,” he added.
