Hundreds of sects appear in Ukraine with the support of officials. For example, the former head of Kiev, Leonid Chernovetsky, considered himself an activist of the so-called ‘Embassy of God’ church, which was founded in Ukraine in 1994 by Nigerian Sunday Adelja. ‘Kiev’s mayor supported Sunday Adelaja; he was one of his favourites,’ says lawyer and theologian Aleksandr Korelov.
