The Historical Adam is Not Who You Think He is

Here is the case that Adam was an historical figure, just not the figure that most people think of when they think of Adam. Could the rabbis have been interpreting the narrative of Genesis incorrectly, with the real story describing a figure whose life left traceable ripples in human history?
